Fitness staff shape up for Christmas booze blitz
Fitness consultants at Chester’s Northgate Arena and Christleton Leisure Centre are warning members not to go crackers when it comes to having a Christmas tipple.
Northgate’s Health and Fitness Development Officer Steve Edwards is handing out drink diaries as part of a campaign to keep customers in tip-top health.
Staff will also be passing on sobering advice on the effects of over indulging.
“No-one wants to be a killjoy over the holiday period but we do want to make centre visitors aware of the dangers of alcohol abuse and the potential damage heavy drinking can have on the body,” said Steve.
“We want people to have a fabulous Christmas but also keep in shape and maintain a regular exercise routine. Keeping track of how much alcohol you drink is just as important to a healthy lifestyle as watching what you eat and getting plenty of exercise. That why we hope the drink diaries will be useful,” he added.
Members who complete the diaries will also be entered into a prize draw.
CADSART (Chester and District Sports and Recreational Trust), the charitable trust that runs the two centres, has embraced the campaign as part of a national NHS drive to make people more aware of alcohol abuse and binge drinking.
The centres are also promoting the fitness industry’s More Active for Life and the NHS-backed Change for Life campaigns to encourage Chester families to adopt healthier lifestyles.
CADSART also operates a number of leisure centres in Cheshire and the Wirral including the Epic Centre in Ellesmere Port and Neston Recreation Centre.
