To add some variety or as a programme in it’s own right Toning Tables are an excellent form of non impact exercise.
The Arena has eight toning tables, located in the gym, to ensure all parts of the body are exercised and toned.
All of our Gym Instructors are qualified in this form of exercise and, if you wish to use them, they will take you through each of the tables as part of the Gym induction.
The toning tables are an ideal introduction to exercise. They operate by using gentle resistance techniques against the machine.
If you are new to toning tables the following Q&A may help you decide if they are right for you.
| I am overweight and have never exercised before. I would like to become active but wouldn’t feel comfortable in a gym surrounded by fit people? |
| Toning Tables are the perfect introduction to exercise for both men and women. Using simple resistance techniques against the machines, the tables tone your body and burn calories. Your size and weight is recorded to show how well you are doing. Once you are more confident with your level of fitness you could move on to using some cardio-vascular equipment in the Gym. |
| I am recovering from a hip operation and have been advised by my GP to start gentle exercising. What can I do? |
| Toning tables would an ideal way to start using low-level, gentle techniques. |
| I am a keen sports enthusiast currently out of action due to a knee injury. How can I keep in shape? |
| Toning tables are a non-impact way of exercising, ideal for injury rehabilitation which means you can still complete a challenging workout. |
Toning table studios look quite complicated to use. How do I know which ones are good for me? |
| At Northgate Arena you will be looked after by a professional consultant who will carry out an induction, assess your needs, show you the tables most beneficial for you and how to use them. To book your induction call Northgate Arena on (01244) 380 444. |

Regular physical activity is fun and healthy, and increasingly more people are starting to become more active every day. Being more active is very safe for most people. However, some people should check with their doctor before they start becoming much more physically active. If you are planning to become much more physically active than you are now, start by answering the seven questions listed below. If you are between the ages of 15 and 69, the PAR-Q will tell you if you should check with your doctor before you start. If you are over 69 years of age, and you are not used to being very active, check with your doctor. Common sense is your best guide when you answer these questions. Please read the questions carefully and answer each one honestly:
yes...no |
Has your doctor ever said that you have a heart condition and that you should only do physical activity recommended by a doctor? |

If you have any questions regarding your health or safety in becoming more physically active, check with your doctor.
